The 1st prized proposal is based on creating diverse living conditions with proximity to nature, well-being, and community.
Vision
The “Living in nature” project proposes to develop a former elderly home site into a new 15.000 m2 housing neighborhood. The site is located on top of a hill, in the middle of the forest, only 2km from the city center of Turku. The vision of the winning proposal is based on creating diverse living conditions with proximity to nature, well-being, and a strong sense of community. In today’s, busy and fast society, we see a demand in re-introducing quietness and nature into people’s everyday lives.
The forest introduces a natural, lively, and seasonally changing framework for the community to interact with.
The landscape and natural values of the area provide a strong, distinctive starting point for the plan. The old elderly home is surrounded by a significant landscape of pine forest and ancient natural rock formations. The housing block has a minimal footprint in order to preserve nature and build on the site around the existing buildings. The forest introduces a natural, lively, and seasonally changing framework for the community to interact with.
